CBR is based on RAR archiver which is proprietary technology, therefore ACBF Viewer only supports CBZ (zip archives) currently. ACBF file can be embedded into CBZ archive, you may take a look on Ryan Estrada's comic which is included in SampleComicBooks.zip along with other comics. Creating a ACBF file takes time and work. Everyone is invited to study the specifications and existing sample comics (especially Craphound comic which takes full advantage of specifications) and create/convert their own comics to ACBF.

I'm going to give it a go. For one thing, converting from CBR to CBZ is
dead simple. It would be fun to try to convert some of the old stuff I
have to this format.

By the way, I should have said "thanks" and let you know that I have been promoting the heck out of this.

You're welcome. Conversion to ACBF is not simple though, I mean creating panels boundaries and bubbles polygons. I used InkScape to draw polygons over the background image, then saved it to SVG and then took out the coordinates from resulting SVG file (I made a shell script for that conversion and it can be found in the source code repository). In the future I plan to write a HOW-TO document about it. Until some editor for ACBF files is created it won't be easy though.

I made some Bash scripts to convert CBZs and CBRs to ACBFs using my acbfp utility. This is a very simple conversion, there are no panels or bubbles defined. I figure someday editors will first create simple ACBF files and then load them into an ACBF editor.

The stuff is in Tools/Pack, I'm not sure how to upload source archives to Launchpad yet.
Needless to say it'll probably only work on Linux.
