can't get access to jack

how do I get jack enabled? it isn't in synaptic. when I use apt-get it tells me the package is not available (and I've used the full name: jack-audio-connection-kit).

Try "apt-get install qjackctl". That should pull in everything you need. You'll then need to use qjackctl to set up jackd.

(Note that there's no jack plug in the Ubuntu distro. And when I tried compiling ALSA from source to get the jack plug, it didn't work anyway.)
