it wont let me use the password

i tried using my password that i use all the time but it wouldn't let me use it so i am confused

What do you with "won't let me use the password"?
Do you get an error message that the password is wrong, or what else happens?

In a command line window you will be asked for your password as a confirmation for an administrative action, if you issue a command with "sudo", e.g. "sudo apt-get update".
In this mode you will not receive any feedback when typing the password (no echo, not even '*' placeholders). Just "blind" type your password and press the enter key.
