i just got this laptop from the owner bt i cant use it because it asks for password from the old owner . what can i do to delete the information and change it to mine information

i just got this laptop from the owner bt i cant use it because it asks for password from the old owner . what can i do to delete the information and change it to mine information.. i really need to use this computer as soon as possible for my college please help.

1. Ask the previous owner that he tells the password to you

or

2. change the password with the instructions as shown in http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword
