When I need to install a program, they ask me for an authentication code. I do not have it.

Hi Guys!

I bought this lap computer (Dell) last year with the ubuntu operating system and every time I need to install a program , it ask me for an authentication code. I took it to the store that store that sold it to me, and the tech guy entered a code to by pass it. He said that I could use it without entering a code. But everytime I need to install any program , it continues to ask me for an authentication code. PLEASE HELP!

Ubuntu uses the sudo concept to allow administrators execute administrative actions without the need to log in as "root", but still providing a certain degree of unauthorized system access prevention.

Whenever you want to execute an administrative action (like e.g. installing software), you get the request to confirm this by entering your own password.

Do you know the password belonging to your user account? Just enter it when asked.

(Remark, in certain cases you get the request to enter the password, and when typing the password you do not get any feedback - no echo, not '*' placeholders.)
