Fatal failing to fork error

Asked by Hitesh Vyas

On running aptoncd, and selecting 'create', it reads packages upto 65% level , then crashes and vanishes. Terminal window shows error as 'Fatal > failing to fork'. Do not know what to do? I have 'Ubuntu9.04-jaunty' (dual boot with winxp system, integrated intel828chipset, processor 1.76mhz)

This was a known bug, the fix didn't went into the repos.

First remove the current version.

Download and install http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18476205/aptoncd_0.1.98-0ubuntu4_all.deb

on trying to install I get following error

"Selecting previously deselected package aptoncd.
(Reading database ... 142984 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking aptoncd (from aptoncd_0.1.98-0ubuntu4_all.deb) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of aptoncd:
aptoncd depends on python (<< 2.6); however:
Version of python on system is 2.6.2-0ubuntu1.
dpkg: error processing aptoncd (--install):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Processing triggers for man-db ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 aptoncd"

how to install other version of python? Will it not cause instability with other packages?
kindly guide.

Hitesh Vyas, you can safetly install it using dpkg --force-all -i aptoncd_0.1.98-0ubuntu4_all.deb.
The dependecy problems is just related to the packaging rules and will nor break your system.

Pleasem close the question if it was solved after that :D

Thank you.
