Where do I get the Locale plug-in?

Asked by Robert Lauriston

The readme for the current release refers to a Locale plug-in, but I can't find it.

You can download Locale from the Android Marketplace.

Oh, I misunderstood. By "locale" I thought that Astrid would tie into the GPS and give me reminder when I was at associated locations.

That would be really neat! I added a Blueprint for this if someone thinks such a feature would be "developable".

It would be nice if we could do this directly from the location tag in RTM. Currently we can get this functionality (getting reminders based on an associated location) through the use of Locale and Astrid together. If you haven't tried this out you should. It is pretty neat.

In Locale you setup a "situation" (i.e. at home, or near the grocery store) and you can have this trigger notification for a certain tag in Astrid.

for example I am reminded about all my chores when I am at home and my grocery list when I am near my the grocery store. I think we are ahead of you here :)

@Jon - I've been trying to get an Astrid notification to pop up using Locale but haven't had any luck.
Locale v 0.672
Astrid v 2.9.2

In Astrid, all I'm doing is creating a todo (get Milk) and setting a tag to it ("grocery"). Then I create a situation in Locale. For testing purposes, I'm just setting a time. If I can get it to work with a time, then I'll know it will work with location. Then, I'm setting an Astrid Tag Alert selecting 'grocery'.

It never triggers.

Both Astrid and Locale work independently of each other but I can't get the TODO to fire from Locale. Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Eric

Eric, some users are indicating something broken with the latest version of Android. I've created a bug for this where you can track progress. https://bugs.launchpad.net/astrid/+bug/455059
