auto clean tasks?

Asked by dwillen

I use astrid when I'm shopping. I email my grocery list to my remember the milk account and check things off as I put them in my cart. Is there a way to automatically hide checked items? I can force it by cleaning completed tasks older than 0 days, but this requires lots of clicks. Or maybe there is a way to force a re-sort (to get the unchecked things at the top) without exiting and entering astrid again? Towards the end of my shopping I have to scroll through screens of checked tasks in order to see what I have left.

Right now I don't think there is an easy way to do what you are asking but it makes sense. A button that says "clear completed tasks" would probably solve the problem. The creator of Astrid and I just created a similar function in a new app we have been working on called Todoroo (not yet on the market) and we hope that this feature will make it Astrid as well.

I also think that a "clear completed tasks" button would be extremely helpful. Thank you for such a great app

Already there! It's in the Menu, under More, "Delete Old Tasks"

Tim, if you read the original question I did mention this feature, "I can force it by cleaning completed tasks older than 0 days, but this requires lots of clicks." and it still holds. Deleting checked items requires me to click "menu", "more", "clean up old tasks", then tap the minus button 6 times (since the thing defaults to 30, and I need 0), all while trying to push a cart?

There should be a more user friendly method to remove checked items, or as I suggested, an option to remove them immediately upon checking. Even better would be to delete them when the screen goes to black (sleep), so if you accidently check off the wrong thing, you can quickly undo it.

oops, you're right! Sorry, I must've jumped into the e-mail in the
middle of the conversation.

Basically, right when you check something off, it stays around just in
case you made a mistake. The easiest way to get them to disappear:

Swipe your finger right to left to show the "tags" screen, and then
swipe your finger from left to right to go back to the main task list
page. The tasks should be reloaded and your checked-off tasks disappear.

I guess you can do this from the menu too, by clicking Menu -> Tags,
and then the Back button. Hope that solves your problem.

Perfect. Thank you. I set filter/sort to delete old tasks, and swiping back and forth reloads the list.

Thanks Tim Su, that solved my question.
