No Longer Receiving Taskbar Notifications

Asked by Seabiscuit

Astrid is no longer notifying me in any way of tasks that are due.

No taskbar, no alarm, no nothing. It used to work just fine.

I can see nothing in Settings that would be causing the problem.

Any help? Thanks.

I have an almost identical problem with v2.10.1. In my case, the problem is identical when the phone is sleeping (i.e., no notification of any kind). If the phone isn't sleeping, notifications behave as they should...but only about 90% of the time. Go figure. I restarted the phone and now all notifications are behaving as they should, phone being asleep or awake.

On reflection, given that I hadn't restarted my phone (Droid) for 10-15 days, perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised by this kind of behavior from any Droid app (i.e., misbehaving when the phone has been running for a long time). Droid is a sophisticated personal computer with an OS (Android) built on top of a different OS (Linux). Historically it has been the case that such computers with sophisticated OSs "go bad" if left running--even if hibernating--for long periods (several days?) at a time. Thus, I've decided to restart my Droid at least once-a-week. Now all I need is a reliable app that can remind me to do so. ;-)

Problem returned. Upgraded to v2.10.2 (the latest). Problem still exists, even after restarting the phone. Seriousness: Without notifications, this app--and any app of its kind--is worthless to me.

Are you sure you are not using task killer or another application that
closed background processes? If Astrid is not running in the back
ground it cannot notify you.

If this isn't the case please let us know what version of android and
phone you are using.

Warmly,
Jon

I narrowed my issue down to Task Killer. I assumed that Astrid would load again if something came due, but it doesn't. You kill it once, it's dead.

It would be good in future updates if something could be done about that.

Thanks!

Problem solved for me--as for Seabiscuit, the cause was a task killer (TasKiller by Thibant Nicolas) doing what it's suppose to do. I even had it configured to do an "auto kill all" when the screen goes off. I have since put Astrid on the task killer's "ignore list."

To developer: Until you get around to making Astrid "task-killer proof," please consider nagging the user about the task killer problem. One app I use does this by popping up a reminder during the first running after an update. Thanks, again, for a great app.

That's a good point. I haven't really gotten around to this since I
don't use a task killer myself, but I will add this to the wishlist for
future consideration. Sorry for all of your troubles, so glad that this
is resolved.
