There's some changes going on that probably cause this and may cause it again within the next couple updates. Removing the applets from the applet list using awn-manager and adding them back again should resolve the issue. You may need to reconfigure some applets after doing this. Sorry for the inconvenience.

If the above doesn't resolve the issue please open a bug.

Thanks,

I did it, and all the applets worked, but not the volume control applet. What is happening?

After a new AWN update today the launchers doesn't work anymore.
AWN is also very unstable since these problems.

I have tried to add the launchers again but it didn't work.

I can confirm these problems. I returned back to stable version in repositories. After one update, I had to remove all the applets and add them again, after next update happend the same.

Anyone experiencing issues along with the description of the problem _please_ indicate:

1) The full name of awn packages installed including any version info.
2) The repo that you are using or at the very least a URL of the guide used to install.

There are a few issues going on.
1) There's a bad awn package in hardy-proposed ( 0.2.1 series).
2) Reacocard's ppa had some build issues which I believe have been resolved (bzr).
3) The awn-testing ppa had an issue where we were unhappy with the results of update so we rolled back to a previous revision (bzr).

So if we don't know which packages are involved it's impossible to help/direct to the right information.

I have the same problem too with ubuntu 8.04 (32 Bit)

- The Launchers don't work and the Applets have no Icon (a red circle with a cross, X)
- All the .py (python) Files by the update are deleted from /usr/lib/awn/applets

The AWN-Version is 0.3.1.bzr397.3harc~

The same thing is happening to me. It started yesterday. Today I upgraded to 0.3.1.bzr735.1

I still cannot see any of my Launcher Icons. I reloaded all my applets and those appear to be working correctly, it is just the Launcher portion that isn't visible at all.

Ubuntu 8.04(32bit)

MyBrainHurts,

Did you also remove and add the Launcher/Taskmanager applet?

- Unable to view more the 2 applets (proper icon/s) any others appear as a red x
- No launchers at all. And having to remove and add them again, plz don't say this needs to be done!

o.3.1~bzr410-hardy1-1
Ubuntu 8.04 x86, Linux version 2.6.24-19-generic

sp00k,

Applets are being switched over to use gtk icon theme icons. If no match is found in the configured icon theme then the red X appears. You could either try an icon theme that has better coverage or just drag and drop the icon you want into the applet.

Launcher not showing up is normally as sign of one of two things...
1) The Launcher/Taskmanager applet is not loaded in the applet list.
2) You need to remove the Launcher/Taskmanager applet and add it again.

Kool, the add/remove the Launcher/Taskmanager worked the charm and am sure your right on about the icons too. Thx for helping out!

Ubuntu 8.04
Same here - removed and re added Quit-Log out applet but still just get white line.
This may be because I have used a different icon, but there is now no way to edit the icon since the white line cannot be right clicked.
Have you thought of being able to edit applet settings in the main Dock Preferences dialogue? This would save a lot of hassle.

imclean: you might want to open another question instead of hijacking an old one.

Yes, we've thought of it. It is difficult to do, since applets are out-of-process.
