Is it possible to queue up snapshot removals?

Asked by terry b

Hi,

I periodically have to do maintenance on the BIT archive. The thing that I've noticed is that I can only remove 1 snapshot at a time.

I tag all of my weekly, monthly, and annual backups with an external script. This lets me keep track of what backups I need to preserve and provides the necessary information that I need to visually decide what to delete.

What I generally do is select the daily backups and then the weekly's/monthly's until I reached to level of free disk space that I feel like is acceptable.

Is there a way to queue a series of snapshot removals?

Thanks!

Hi,

There are auto-remove rules. You can select to take 1 snapshot per day and decide to keep all snapshots for the last N days, 1 per month (for older months), 1 per year (for the last years) ... and/or try to keep a min disk free.
Does this feats your needs ?

Dan

Hi Dan,

It's close but too uncontrolled for my personal taste. Part of the reason that
I put labels on the backups is so I can recognize the difference between a
weekly backup... taken Sunday at 0000, a monthly taken on the first of the
month at 0000, an annual taken 1/1 at 0000 and dailies.

I guess that I can script this up, I just wanted to see if there was anything
I was missing from the software's functionality.

Regards,

Terry

1. For the GUI you can remove one snapshot at time. Maybe we can support multiple selection.

2. The auto-remove can be configured "not to remove named snapshots" (and I think it is the default option)

3. From the comman line you can list snapshots (and some other thinks), but you can't remove one. Maybe adding one is a good option.

Which option feet better your needs ? (or something else ?)

Dan
