Ability to change default codec/values for import/rip to library?

Becoming a great player! Is there an easy way to change the default values for the codec and/or values (bps?) for the import-to-library function when ripping from a cd? I understand it's using gstreamer and system defaults for this, but is there a gui front end to change these values?

Found gconf-editor - will editing the gstreamer pipeline command accomplish this?

Hmm... I don't really see how this relates to "trying to edit CD-Rom media"? I'm going to try playing with the gstreamer default settings to see if I can adjust the kbps rate... although outright disabling the profile didn't help. I'm hoping to get at higher rate than the 128 default, but still have a much smaller size than the flac option.
