Boot-repair fails to recognize my Windows 7 installation

Asked by John M Furgason

Boot repair does not recognize my Windows 7 installation, which is the same problem I get when Instaling ubuntu 11.10. It does, however, recognize the partition.

I've messed with some of the settings, trying to reinstall grub and such, this was after I tried the restore MBR. right now, nothing boots.

Hi John,

Your system uses GPT disk, and probably EFI boot.

Now your Windows is not recognized by os-prober/GRUB, so you will have to repair Windows first.

Please:
1) boot a Ubuntu live-CD then backup your documents (WIndows and Ubuntu ones) on an external disk or DVDs.
2) boot on a Windows CD, then try the following commands:
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
until you can boot into Windows
3) Then run Boot-Repair's recommended repair and indicate the new URL that will appear.

Can you help with this problem?
