Hello
Please boot on your Ubuntu-Secure-Remix disk, choose "Try Ubuntu", then run Boot-Repair from the "Boot-Repair" icon which is located at the left-side of the screen.
When the main Boot-Repair window appears, click the "Recommended Repair" button.

You are using an old version of Boot-Repair.
Please :
1) boot your Ubuntu-Secure-Remix , choose "Try Ubuntu",
2) connect internet
3) open a terminal, and type:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair boot-sav
4) run Boot-Repair --> Recommended Repair , and tell me the new URL that will appear?
5) reboot and tell me if a Windows entry appeared in the GRUB menu?

I would:
1) partition the GPT disc via Gparted. Create a NTFS partition (will be used by Windows), and leave the rest free (will be used by Ubuntu)
2) then install Windows, reboot and check that it works
3) install Ubuntu alongside as described in the 1st paragraph of this page: https:/

I recently bought a compaq cq2000 tower with windows 8 pre-installed on it and being a Ubuntu fan and user...I wanted to dual boot it with the latest version of Ubuntu 12.10 like I was doing with my older pc that has xbuntu 12.04 and win xp pro in dual boot. So, first I did the standard Ubuntu installation from the home page. After this that was the beginning of some white nights for me!!
First, Ubuntu wasn't loading at all. Then after scouring the blogs and forums, I learnt that it had something to do with the new EFI firmware....secure boot etc. etc. So I played around in the new bios...disabling secure boot etc. and I got Ubuntu to boot for once. But after a few updates on Ubuntu, I couldn't get back in after a reboot. My windows 8 was working fine still so I used it to try and get some answers, but nothing worked. I decided to uninstall ubuntu and reinstall it via...ubuntu secure remix... But being the total rookie that I am to these things, I went around uninstalling ubuntu in the wrong way by deleting the partition that it was on....then I tried to get back the Ubuntu partition by running a partition recovery tool....but it only made matters worse by shutting down the whole os and at this time nothing was booting. Then I through a windows recovery disk that I had made...after trying to unsuccessfully recover windows...I went for another nuclear option by wiping the hard drive clean. Gonna skip the troubles that that option brought me too but I ended up with a lesser version of windows 8....I reinstall ubuntu 12.10 via ubuntu secure remix. And now ,my new installed lesser windows 8 version isn't booting....dispite all the running of Boot Repair. Don't get all defensive....not trying to knock Boot Repair nor Ubuntu...for I have a strong feelings that it's doable....to dualboot win 8 and ubuntu 12.10...but I ain't doing it right.
So, the question is what exactly is it that I need to do to be able to dual boot ubuntu 12.10 with a pre-installed win 8 !!!???

Ok YannUbuntu (yannubuntu), I finally got it working to dual boot win 8 and ubuntu 12.10. I'm not sure how I did this....but it's a combination of these things below.
1: I did a clean factory reinstallation of windows 8.
2: I reinstall Ubuntu 12.10 in legacy mode using the method in this video....http://
3: Then I install git 1.8.1.1 and run some of the commands on it's download page.
4: Then I installed Boot-repair and ran it.
The end result of this brought me a grub menu with ten different options....2 for ubuntu...7 for windows...and 1 for the bios. My 2 ubuntu options are working fine...4 of my windows options are working fine...booting and putting windows into recovery mode if the need arises.
The set up (bios) option is fine too. So, I'm satisfied with this result and this issue is done for me.
Can you help with this problem?
