Win7 & Ubuntu wont duel boot, boot repair didnt work

I am trying to duel boot windows 7 and ubuntu current version on an older compaq (vista era 32bit).

Fresh install of both OS with windows being the first os installed on the same HD. 50/50% split on the hd.

It boots straight into win7 with no menu to select os.

Both 32bit repair options on the boot repair cd failed with error after error.

How can i force it?
