Bazaar hijacks TortoiseSVN?

Asked by Kevin Sherrill

I'm new to Bazaar. I installed it to learn it and manage some personal projects.
Then I started a new job that uses Subversion.
I installed Subversion then TortoiseSVN only to discover that I apparently can't have TortoiseBzr and TortoiseSVN in my context menus.
I uninstalled TortoiseSVN and tried to work with TortoiseBzr and its svn plugin.
Perhaps because I'm so new to Bazaar I kept having problems with SVN checkins/checkouts so I could work from home.
So I uninstalled TortoiseBzr (aka TortoiseOverlays?)
Installed TortoiseSVN. Rebooted. I still get TortoiseBzr.
Does Bazaar hijack the TortoiseSVN install?
Frustrated, I uninstall Bazaar 2.1.1
Reinstall TortoiseSVN. Still no Tortoise context menus or overlays for either Bzr or Svn
Now is seems Bazaar has damaged my right-click context menu for Win7. Everything looks fine in the context menu except there's no Tortoise. I can use svn from the command line. But I'd really like Tortoise back.

Any ideas? After multiple reinstalls I'm out of ideas. Any ideas where the context menu lives in the registry? Perhaps I can manually edit out any damage there. My context menu still works for all my other apps though.

Update: I was able to install the latest version of Bazaar and soon after my context menus started using TortoiseBzr. I wouldn't mark the problem as solved. But at some point I can try to uninstall the whole thing again (this time just Bazaar, instead of first uninstalling TortoiseOverlays) and see if i can then just install and use TortoiseSVN. Right now I have something that mostly works and I just don't have time to mess with it any more. Would really like to see a separate version of TortoiseBzr that would co-exist in the context menu with TortoiseSVN. Or has any body already made this work? I suspect it first involved removing the SVN plugin.

Final Message. Conflict bugs prevented me from going any further with Bazaar. I uninstalled it and the TortoiseOverlays. I then installed TortoiseSVN 32-bit again but that still didn't work. Finally, I was able to determine that only TortoiseSVN x64 will work on my Win7 x64 system -even though their website states both will work on x64 systems. So my apologies for thinking that Bazaar had in some way damaged my right-click context menu. That may not have been the case. However, I think this is the first time I've HAD to install x64 software in order for it to work. I really wanted to like Bazaar, but compared to Svn it is still just to difficult to use at the moment. I really hope at some point they can both co-exist in the right-click context menu.
