automatic backup if the user is logged out?

Asked by tweak17emon

I was wondering if the backup tool continues to run on 12.04 if your logged out and sitting at a login screen? i have the automatic backup setup, but it did not backup over the weekend with the user logged out.

We have the automatic backup setup to transfer over the network to a file server. It will successfully send the backup files to the correct folder if you use the 'backup now' feature, but we did not have any of the files or folders backup over the weekend with the user account logged out.

Yes, that's intentional. Deja Dup won't automatically back up if the user isn't logged in.

Could this be changed?

Take for instance my situation:

-Main computer that stores all files and serves as a Samba server.
-One Windows 7 laptop that my wife uses, with drives mapped to Samba server.
-Two users, myself and my wife.
-I am the only person who uses the 'Samba server' and Ubuntu
-My wife never logs in the samba server.

If backups don't run unless you're logged in, my wife will never have backups made unless I force her to log in? I'm sure that Mr. Terry has the skills to make Deja Dup do anything, but the simplicity of DD is what is so attractive.

Therefore, would you consider putting this on a 'wishlist'?

Can you help with this problem?
