Would you integrate in deja-dup/Backup a way to intuitively backup and restore Ubuntu (Touch) Phones?

Asked by MrMorals

Hi everyone,

First of all, let me say that I absolutely love the Backup (deja-dup) tool which really makes Ubuntu Desktop into a grown up and usable OS. I would love to switch phonewise to Ubuntu as well. However, I see that there is not a great way to back up folders and/or system states to have a full restore of the phone. This is one of the few things that are keeping me from using Ubuntu Touch just now.

I was just wondering if you (the developers) had been thinking about adding possibilities for Ubuntu phones in deja-dup?

Thanks again for the great and above all USABLE program! :)

Cheers,
MrMorals

By the way, I'm realizing that making the phone/tablet backup function fully dependent on a desktop might not be the best option. Would be cool if it could make backups standalone as well as on a desktop. Where standalone means just attaching a storage medium (flashdrive) directly to the phone/tablet or via a network connection. These are basically the functions that Deja Dup on desktop has right now.

Hello!

I do not know of any plans to port Déjà Dup to the Ubuntu Phone. Given the current state of the project I doubt that this will happen in the near future.

Although, this is an Open Source project and if someone writes a port for the Ubuntu Phone and makes a serious commitment to keep it up to date this might be appreciated by the team.

Best regards

Vej
