Do

Why does Do always appear behind all other windows when using Kwin instead of Compiz?

Asked by Adam Porter

Using Kubuntu 7.10, if running Kwin instead of Compiz, when activated, Do always appears behind all windows; it's not visible unless all other windows are hidden. But with Compiz, it works fine.

I'd imagine it's related to this bug:
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/do/+bug/204405

It seems there might be a couple of causes, but it's not determined yet. If you wish to help debug the issue that bug would be the place to help at.

You can fix this by adjusting your settings in KDE, here's how I got it working:

In KDE 4 go to System Settings>Window Behavior and create a new window specific setting. Change "Window Class" to "Exact Match" and type in "do".

Now click on the "Window Extra" tab and set the window type to "Splash Screen", then change "Window Title" to "Exact Match" and type in "Do".

Now go to the "Workarounds" tab and set "Focus Stealing Prevention" to "Force" and "None", then change "Window type" to "Force" and "Splash Screen". Then just Hit OK and Apply and you should be good to go.

This does not work any longer with KDE 4.3.4 :(

BTW, how does one go about detecting the window properties for Do (within KDE)? As soon as I click "Detect Window Properties", the Do window disappears. Is there a way to force Do to remain visible?

So I figured out if you just set "focus stealing prevention level" to none under System Settings -> Window Behavior -> Window Behavior, Gnome-Do works great. Dunno if this has any other consequences.

On 4.4.1 doesn't help.

Can you help with this problem?
