Drizzle dead?

Asked by David Beck

Hello Drizzle folks,
Based on the source repo and the released packages I wonder how active drizzle development is?
Are there anyone who still cares about this project?
Thank you, David

Hi,

Drizzle development was very active whilst it had a corporate sponsor. Unfortunately all the core developers have had to move on to other jobs which take up more than full time. It is not, however, dead. We all try to contribute when we have the time (which we have to share amongst many open source projects). We have participated in the last few Google Summer of Codes and there is still a lot of general interest.

I believe Drizzle is a fantastic project and is heading in the direction of what an Open Source database should look like. I also believe to get continuous contributions it needs core developers with a corporate sponsor rather that the limited spare time of a handful of hackers.

Many parts of Drizzle have influenced the direction of many parts of other Open Source projects however indirectly and that is a fantastic thing. In fact Openstack's Continuous Integration was born out of the advanced testing we did for Drizzle.

I hope it can live on, I don't think it will ever truly die. Without sponsorship it won't thrive.

Thank you very much for all these info!
I totally understand your points especially the spare time part.
I wish a commercial sponsor will pick this project up!
Best regards, David

The docs are not lost yet. I found a copy of the wiki on archive.org and I have recovered a mysqldump of the wordpress7 blog.drizzle.org, and am right now regrinding it all into Jekyll format. They will reappear on a new drizzle.org hosted on GitHub, very soon.
