Cannot start Easyubuntu

Asked by redpirate

I am a newbie to Ubuntu and have installed Ubuntu Breezy Badger 5.10:

When I try to run easyubuntu with following command "sudo python easyubuntu.py" I get the following message:

-------------- Quote
Your sources.list does not match your system configuration.
Either you have changed your sources.list or an system
upgrade has failed. EasyUbuntu will not run unless these are fixed!
---------------- End quote

Please help.

Hello,

Yet sorry but Ubuntu Breezy Badger 5.10 is a quite old operating system in the linux world. You will need to upgrade your breezy to Canonical's brand new fresh, robust Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (Long Term Support) operating system.

Whether you order via ubuntu's free shipit service or you just simple download or upgrade your breezy but you will need it.

It needs the same configuration like breezy so in my opinion wait a bit until you install Dapper Drake.

My advice is to make a fresh install so download from www.ubuntu.com or order via Shipit Free CD service.

It is easier for newbies because automatically recognizes your ntfs drive like windows xp partition. I am sure you will use EasyUbuntu with no problems.

Just follow carefuly the directions given at Easyubuntu's page.

Sincerely,

Hello,

I too am a newbie and just installed Ubuntu Dapper Drake.

When I try to run EasyUbuntu, I get this:
--------------------------------------------------------------
root@danplinux:~/easyubuntu# sudo python easyubuntu.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "easyubuntu.py", line 33, in ?
    desktop = de()
  File "/root/easyubuntu/detect.py", line 76, in de
    import gtk
  File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gtk/__init__.py", line 45, in ? from _gtk import *
RuntimeError: could not open display
root@danplinux:~/easyubuntu#
-------------------------------------------------------------
What am I doing wrong? Am I missing something?

Thanks!

I am having the very same problem without being root. Did unRooting the previous user fix his problem?

I am getting the exact same error as the OP, running a fresh install of Kubuntu 6.06 - I'm just doing the initial update, then I'll try it again:

upgrade has failed. EasyUbuntu will not run unless these are fixed!

Error on a fresh Kubuntu install? can you paste output of "lsb_release -c"

I have the same issue as the OP. This is a fresh install of Dapper.

$ lsb_release -c
Codename: dapper

I haven't touched anything since the install other than allow it to install updates. sources.list shows local New Zealand repositories. I didn't add them myself, they were there when I installed.
