In continuation of the above answer #2, I would like to add the effect of reloading the Synaptic Package Manager :
There comes an error while reloading the SPM
-------
Could not download all repository indexes
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

OK in fact you should use the freetuxtv-dev ppa (unstable), because the stable (ppa) does not contains a package version for trusty.
So use the command: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:freetuxtv/

Sir,
As per your instruction, I removed the previously added ppa through Software Updates.
Then applied : "sudo add-apt-repository ppa:freetuxtv/
In "Other Software" it appears added as:
http://
&
http://
out of that, the (Source Code) line is unticked/
I also ticked/selected "Pre-released updates (trusty-proposed) in "Updates" column.
After all above operations, I updated and upgraded through terminal.
Despite this, FreeTuxTV is no working. On launching it only black screen appears with only options for Recordings, Channels, and Search. Even after selecting a particular channel, it is nor workingt!
Please, suggest a further action to activate the application/

-------
The main launching window of FreeTuxTV opens and the curser just blinks in the Terminal. Nothing proceeds.
There is an indication to "hide splashscreen" - How to do this. I could not find any potion in the menu.
Please, guide.

Don't care about the splashcreen, the log says you are not playing a channel, you have to go in the channels menu, and add a group, select a group for your langage, and add it. It will download a channels list. After that, go to the main window, and double-click on the channel you want to see on the left side.

ok.
Now it works for very few channels - say just a couple of channels like bbc news etc.
most of the channels launching gives errors or corrupt modules or fails to launch.
I am adding some output in the terminal as under for your ready reference and appropriate diagnosis of the situation:
