Re-bind shortcut to close window does not work

In the keyboard settings menu, most changed keybindings do work. However, if I try to change the keybinding for closing the current window, the setting saves, but it does not take affect. Alt-f4, while not listed as the keybinding anymore, still works for closing windows. This persists through reboots.

How can I force this rebinding to take effect?

Actually, I found the appropriate setting to change in dconf editor. It is under org->gnome->desktop->wm->keybindings.

However, it is still strange that the keybinding editor under keyboard settings doesn't force the change to stick.
