Status of the Windows version

Asked by Jacques-Henri Jourdan

I would be happy to know what is the status of the Windows version of Gourmet: do you have a procedure to build an installer ? I tried the procedure described in the wiki, but it does not seems to be up to date, and some bugs in i18n blocked me.

The version currently distributed is quite old, and does not integrate important features, like printing. Will the new version integrate these features ?

I would be happy to help you making things work, but understanding the problems would help me a lot, by keeping the wiki up to date, for example) !

Thank you !

BR,
JH Jourdan

Hello Jacques-Henry,

and welcome to Gourmet! It's great to hear you're interested to help out with the Windows binaries and installer.

As for the procedure to build it, the wiki is pretty much up-to-date, but it's true that some things aren't covered yet, as the i18n bugs you're experiencing. They're due to intltool perl scripts (like intltoo-update, intltool-merge, msgfmt-*) expecting each other on $PATH where on Windows they normally aren't. I'm currently working around this issue by manually specifying hard-wired paths in those scripts, but that's so ugly and cumbersome that I didn't want to recommend it in the wiki. I don't have enough time to check now, but it's possible that another workaround would be to set properly named environment variables that get checked by those scripts that specify the respective paths.

There are still a couple of other things that need to be polished before we can release a Windows version, most notably printing; see https://github.com/thinkle/gourmet/issues/708 for more detail.

Hope that helps to get you started for now; just post to this thread if you run into any blockers.

Kind regards
Bernhard
