HP Officejet 6500A Plus no connection to hplip

Asked by Carl Greco

hplip 3.10.6 will not recognize the HP Officejet 6500A Plus Wireless attached via USB, reported as not supported.
hp-check -t
HP Device 0x5412 at 002:008:
    Device URI: hp:/usb/Officejet_6500_E710n-z?serial=CN0BM116DZ05JW
error: Unsupported model: Officejet_6500_E710n-z

Distribution: Ubuntu 10.10
Kernel Linux 2.6.35-24-generic

HP OfficeJet 6500 Wireless Printer listed in the Openprinting Database as fully supported.

Also, hplipopensource.com claims full support for HPLIP
model: HP Oficejet 6500 e710n-z
However, it claims Ubuntu has hplip 3.10.11 and not 3.10.6 as the installed version.
It appears the only option is to download and install the latest hplip version 3.11.1

Hi,

The minimum HPLIP version required for HP OfficeJet 6500 E710n-z is 3.10.9. Please upgrade your HPLIP to the latestversion.

Thanks for contacting HPLIP
