Which PPD for OfficeJet 6500?

Asked by Stuart Longland

Hi,

Not sure if it was some flag I enabled last time I compiled hplip, but I recall hplip shipping a PPD file for the OfficeJet 6500n. Recently I downloaded and compiled hplip-3.11.5 and started setting up the printer. The PPD field came up yellow asking me to select a PPD. OS is Gentoo Linux.

No problems, I bring up the file selection dialogue and go hunting for the appropriate PPD. Except I don't see one. There's PPDs for DesignJets, LaserJets, Business Ink jets, a few FAX PPDs, and the OfficeJet PRO 8000 Enterprise, but none for the OfficeJet 6500.

I'll try compiling with static PPD support and see if that was the difference, but I'm either being asked to choose a file erroniously, or the file was omitted erroniously.

Seems it is related to static PPDs... I have the right file I need. Now the question is... why is this necessary?

Either the file should be there regardless of the "static-PPDs" setting as the UI expects it when adding the printer, or the UI should not ask for it.

Hi,

Please can you post us the out-put of "hp-check -t" command.

Thanks,
