'CUPS image developement files missing'

Asked by Debbie

Linux MInt 13 Cinnamon

HP Photosmart C3180 printer/scanner.

I tried to download and install the latest drivers from the HP opensource website using the shell command, using instrucions as below,

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html

and the install was running smoothly until I got this error message.

A required dependency 'cups-image (CUPS image-CUPS image developement files) is still missing.

Let me just say a few days ago my printer was flashing that colour ink had run out, and so I oredered new. When I installed the new cartridge I expected the printer to print again, but no. still it was flashing the colour ink as having run out on the printer console. After searching for advice, I read that perhaps it was the drivers were out of date, which is why I am now in this predicament. I can't even print in just black ink.

Any help anyone?

1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Hi,

Please run following command to install cups package. (Provide us the output to analyse further).
$ su -c 'apt-get install libcups2-dev'

-->If cups package is not installing with above command, try to install libcups2-dev package using "software center"
--> Once cups installed properly, now install latest HPLIP from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html

--> if still problem is not solved, please provide following output
1) go to hplip directory (assuming hplip-3.13.3.run is downloaded to ~/Downloads folder)
$ cd ~/Downloads/hplip-3.13.3

2) run installer in debug mode
$ python ./install.py -g
--> copy and paste above command output here.

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath
