/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed

Asked by gerard

Hello,
my laptop: acer aspire 5102 wlmi
my printer: HP Photosmart C7280
my OS Debian sid
hplip version: 2.7.10-5 (package Debian sid)

With the original package debian hp-setup and hp-toolbox tell me no drivers found ....
cups tells : usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed
(The symbolic link is present in /usr/lib/cups/filter/ and the script perl /usr/bin/foomatic-rip exits)

After I downloaded and installed the driver http://www.openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-PhotoSmart_C7200 driver on my machine hp-setup and hp-toolbox work fine:

I can scan a document.
I can make a copie of a document (from the computer)
I can't print a file. I always get /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed (the document

Three days ago (before I upgraded sid) print worked fine.

I am stuck with this problem, can someone help me to solve this problem ?

Thanks in advance.

Gerard.

Gerard,

Please run hp-check -t and post the output.

Also please put cups into debug mode (issue 2):

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/troubleshooting/printing.html

View the cups log, try and print and then post the cups log here as well. Although you could paste the cups log to http://pastebin.com/ and then post the url to the log.

Thanks!

Aaron

It works !
The problem was caused by me ;-)
The package Debian ghostscript has six bugs and I did not upgrade it.
But this morning I saw that five bugs was corrected and I upgraded ghostscript, and suddenly the
jobs of the spool were sent to the printer. (works fine now)

In Debian hp-check doesn't exist, we have to run /usr/share/hplip/check.py but it's useless
because we don't have to compile phplip.

I apologize for the inconvenient caused.
Thanks for your help

Gerard.

First off it doesn't appear that HPLIP is installed correctly. Please try uninstalling hplip,

sudo apt-get remove hplip
sudo rm -rf /usr/share/hplip

and then re-install hplip from source..

second even though your question is related, please submit a new question for better tracking... Simply below where it says "Got a question of your own? For best results, ask your own question separately", and click the ask your own question separately part.

Thanks.

I remove and installed hplip again, as Aaron said. But the problem still holds, so I download the HP1020 laser drivers from http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/foo2zjs.tar.gz. Then, I run the make install command and after that I could print.
The other problem that still remains is with the HP1200 laser which I did not found drivers that works with the Ubuntu Gutsy.
I will very appreciate some help.
