One ink catridge empty disables the printer

My Magenta cartridge is reported empty, and my HP Officelet 6000 is unreacable. Error 5012 Device communication error is what I get. Is there a workaround until I get the new cartridge?

Run command 'hp-setup -r' to remove the existing print queue for this printer and re-configure the printer using command 'hp-setup'. Use the application to print to the printer.

The driver will pass the job to the printer but i am not sure if printer will allow the job to print if ink catridge is empty.
