Can't get an HP Device Manager display from system tray icon.

Asked by Raymond Hubbard

I'm using hplipopensource's v. 3.15.11 on my Linux Mint 17.1-KDE's desktop, not networked, connected by usb, with the system tray icon. Everything seems to be installed correctly, but right clicking the system tray icon, then clicking "HP Device Manager" yields nothing, nothing happens, i.e., I don't get the Device Manager's display. I can get it by clicking the HP Device Manager entry in KDE's menu, but I should be able to get it directly from the system tray icon. I used to get it that way.

I've reinstalled the hplipopensource software about five times now, each time removing and replacing the old installed software, and every time get the same result. And I've checked all of your troubleshooting instructions, ran "hp-check -t" without problem, and otherwise found nothing relevant. Everything seems to work and be installed properly. What am I doing wrong?

Thank everyone for all your help, but the problem seems to have solved itself. Last evening it just started working, magically. I did nothing; it just started working. So I guess the problem is solved.
