My model printer, officejet pro 8620, is evidently unsupported by hplip 3.15.11 and am unable to configure the printer, is there a way of accomplishing this. I run Ubuntu 14.04
Unable to configure printer (officejet pro 8620) using hplip in Ubuntu 14.04. Evidently it is an unsupported model in the latest issue of hplip. Is there any way I can configure the printer as I really need to use the scanner.
Regards
Dave Brown.

Hi,
The hplip version installed in your system is 3.14.3 . The device is supported from hplip 3.14.4 version onwards.
Please download the file 'hplip-3.15.11.run' from here http://
Run command 'sh hplip-3.15.11.run' in terminal to install the package.
Run command 'hp-setup' to configure the printer.
Let me know if this fixed the issue.
Thanks,
Goutam

Hi Goutam,
probably need a plug in 0f some kind to achieve the installation. Below
is a copy of what happened when I tried, I tried twice as you will see,
once just using the command and then I tried using sudo.

sh: 0: Can't open hplip-3.15.11.run
dave@dave-
[sudo] password for dave:
sh: 0: Can't open hplip-3.15.11.run

can you check where you have saved the file and run the commands there.
You can try copying the files in /tmp directory and retry running the commands
chmod a+x /tmp/hplip-
bash /tmp/hplip-

hi Goutam,
happened when I tried as you suggested. It appears I may have a real
problem unless Ubuntu updates their software centre. I saved the hplip
3.15.11 to the desktop.

Dave Brown.

The path provided to the command is incorrect
Please follow below command.
chmod a+x /home/$
bash /home/$
(or)
Try to copy the file to /tmp folder and run the commands.
If it still doesn't work, try to install the package manually by follow the installation instructions here http://

Hi Goutam,
doesn't appear to recognize the scanner only the printer and fax
facility but I'm grateful for what I have. Re the hplip web site, that
is where I went to first and when I used it everything went O.K. untill
I got to the final phase and it failed to recognize any printer
connected by usb.
