HP deskjet doesn't print

Asked by Sharon Adley

Hp Deskjet 2755e on Ubuntu 22.04 with hplip 3.22.6 using wireless connection to local network
As of August 1, jobs go in the print queue in Paused status and never print.

I saw that hplip 3.22.6 addressed ubuntu 22.04 and my pc had an older version so I installed the more recent version; Setup doesn't find the printer.

cups gui finds the printer and gives its job status as: "held since Mon 05 Aug 2024 03:24:58 PM CDT No suitable destination host found by cups-browsed."

cups Modify Printer lists Discovered Network 3 printers:

HP DeskJet 2700 series [10353B] (HP DeskJet 2700 series) Connection: dnssd://HP%20DeskJet%202700%20series%20%5B10353B%5D._ipp._tcp.local/?uuid=177567bd-109c-74e5-844c-5c2e895b0a05

DeskJet 2700 series (HP DeskJet 2700 series) Connection: socket://192.168.0.15:9100

Ping is successful.

snmpwalk returns "iso.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.9.1.1.7.0 = STRING: "MFG:HP;MDL:DeskJet 2700 series;CMD:PCL3GUI,PJL,Automatic,JPEG,PCLM,AppleRaster,PWGRaster,DW-PCL,802.11,DESKJET,DYN;CLS:PRINTER;DES:26K67A;CID:HPDeskjet_P976D;LEDMDIS:USB#FF#CC#00,USB#07#01#02,USB#FF#04#01;SN:CN35VFZNWM;S:038000C480a00001002c2400014c140001e;Z:05000009000008,12000,17000000000000,181;"

I'm assuming tcp/udp ports are open based on the connection information in the cups gui.

I upgraded from 20.04.4 to 22.04.4 on July 3. I'm sure I used the printer since then, however there have been subsequent updates. Generally there are recommended updates every week.

: Hoping you can provide a solution.

I uninstalled the version of hplip that I had, following all the steps on the hp developers support site. I also deleted all instances of the printer while it was turned off. The I downloaded the latest version of hplip (3.24.4) and ran setup. Printer now prints.

This printer can be set up by HP app for direct printing without a network connection, WifiDirect, but that doesn't provide scanning capabilities so I didn't want to use that. However, WifiDirect was turned on and I found directions to access the printer software and turn it off. Also, HP instructions say you need to set this up using their HP Smart software. I skipped that and relied on just the hplip software and that seems to have fixed the problem.
