I-Gotu GT-800

Asked by Jorgen van der Velde

Hi

Great application. Just what I need to get my I-GotU operating icw Oziexplorer

Is there any effort being made to get it working with the GT-800?

First tests with a serial port monitor show that the GT-800 appear to use the same command set as the 200.

I don't understand why the igotu2gpx does not work with the GT-800
Under WinXP my GT-800 is mapped to COM11. Apparently igotu2gpx is not able to open this comport
Under Win7 it is mapped to COM3. igotu2gpx does not seem to work. Maybe Win7 issue?

Hoi Jorgen,

sadly not as I don't have much time left at the moment next to my day job :-(.

Michael,

Thanx for your response. Currently I am working on a Java application that does the job (I use RXTXComm for comport communication under windows (WinXP, Win7, 32bit and 64 bit)), based on my i-gotu GT-800 Pro, thanx to your excellent work. First tests show the GT-800 behaves quite likely to the the other types. If I have some results I'll let you know and present it on the web.

Kind regards,

Jorgen

I wrote some java code to read out my GT-800 Pro device and write GPX files. It works on Win7 and with all comports (it won't support USB). I will publish the application on http://software.deepocean.net.

I've got a couple of questions.
- What happens when the track memory is full? Will it wrap around or just indicate it is full?
- I see a number of records with status flag 0xf1, filled with more or less crap. I filter them out, but what are they?

HelloJorgen

I have read what you did for Igot U GT 800

I am using a Mac. Do you know if there is a software that would run the GT 800 on Apple (OS X Tiger) Operating System ?

Thank You

Best Regards

Sylvain

Hi Sylvain,

Unfortunately, I don't know. You might try my software, if you have java running. The included serial rxtx binary for serial communication that is included contains a mac version as well... Someone got it running under Linux as well, though I did not test it myself (yet). If you intend to do so, you might need an update (the same needed for Linux). Let me know

Hello Jorgen

Thank you for your answer. My idea was to be sure that a software can be used on mac for i-GotU Gt800 before buying the GPS.
Java is running on my mac.
Which update do I need to install ?

Silvain,

Please, understand me right, I did not test in on Apples and by no means I can guarantee it will work. It probably won't. You just have to try and fiddle around....
