non of the tools work

Asked by raychel ciemma

What ever tool I click on and then drag across the page, nothing happens. This can be using the selection tool, the rectangle tool, the pen tool, the pencil tool, the Bezier curve tool, etc Even on the Tutorial pages nothing was responding.
I am using a Wacom Tablet (Intuos 2) set to all applications.
In the past I was using Illustrator CS2, but don't have access to it anymore.
I appreciate your help, thanks, Raychel

Does it work with a regular mouse?

Hello pbhj, thank you for your response.

I'm afraid I don't have another mouse.  Bought my computer in the US, but am living in India - long way to go to get it!!

One thing that is working for me - is that when I 'roll over' the mouse over any icons, I do get a brief message what the icon/tool is for, but I can't actually make a mark on the file page.

I have also been exploring other graphics software, such as Gimp, to see which one I want to use - and have not had this problem, except when I click with the curser (this is happening with Gimp) it makes a mark somewhere else on the page, rather than directly at the point of the curser.

So you may be on to something, that the problem could be with the mouse. So, then how do I fix it?

Thanks for your help, Raychel

Hello pbhj again,

To update you - I downloaded the latest Wacom Tablet driver - which resulted in nothing changing.

I forgot to tell you that I have been using Photoshop CS3 for several years - where there is no problem with selecting or using any of the tools. In fact, I have never had a problem with any of Photoshop versions, and I have been using this software since 1997.

Also, Paint.Net, a small software program also works fine for me.

It only seems to be a problem with Inkscape and Gimp software.

Inkscape is a nice well thought out program which offers a lot of features. I would love to be able to use it.

Thanks for your help.
Raychel

Tablets are often a problem in Inkscape, although I'm not sure why.

The first reply in the following thread may help (at least, several people have reported that it works for them): http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4055

Thanks, SAS, that was the answer to non of the tools working using a wacom tablet. Now everything appears to be functional. The only thing that I did was uncheck the box in the Mouse preference. I found the Input device preferences unresponsive - they wouldn't allow me to make any changes. Raychel
