using copy and paste the pasted version becomes a bitmap. only sometimes

Asked by Nigel FitzHugh

More often than not I can draw a shape that can have its stroke and fill edited OK. Then when I want more of the same I copy and paste, but each copy comes out as a pixilated bitmap which can't be changed.

This is a known conflict on Macs with the system clipboard between X11/XQuartz and vector drawing applications like Inkscape and Fontforge.

Please adjust the X11 (or XQuartz) preferences as shown on this screenshot:
<https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/307005/+attachment/1760181/+files/X11-pasteboard-preferences.png>
and as described in the FAQ:
<http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ#Copying_and_pasting_in_Inkscape_creates_pixellated_images_instead_of_copying_the_vector_objects>

The changes will take effect immediately (no need to restart X11/XQuartz or Inkscape), but you'll have to re-copy&paste earlier pasted objects (those can't magically be reverted back to vector objects).

Thanks suv. I have done that and it seems to be working properly.
What would I do without forums.
