White fill color rendering as transparent on export

Asked by Hannah P

I have applied a white fill to the background of a symbol I created in Inkscape for a project I am working on in tilemill. When I export the symbol as a png and an svg it renders incorrectly. When rendered as a png the white background is actually transparent and when rendered as a svg only the symbol outline appears. Anyone know what I could be doing incorrect to make this occur?

At first I thought it was a text issue so I tried the 'Unflow' option under text tools, I tried the 'convert to text' option under the text tools. I made sure the fill Alpha Channel is 225. I made sure the fill opacity is 100%. I tried recreating the graphic using lines without any text at all - still get the same outcome.

What am I missing? Anybody know of a fix?

Hhmm....I would need to see some examples, and maybe even the SVG file. And unfortunately, that's not possible here. I would suggest trying a regular forum, where you can upload files and/or images. List of forums: http://inkscape.org/en/learn/

You know, the more common problem, is someone trying to save a PNG with a transparent background. They try to do Save As Cairo png, and get an opaque background. I suppose you could try that....but there may be something else happening in the file, that could or should be more properly corrected.

Did you first create the symbol somewhere else, and import it into Inkscape? Or did you draw it originally in Inskcape? If you imported it, maybe it brought something funky with it, that Inkscape can't handle?

Thank you for your reply. I will try another forum.

I tried save as Cairo png and still got the same result. Thank you for the suggestion.

Originally, I copy/pasted the symbol from a pdf that I opened in inkscape into a new inkscape document, so that I could work with just that symbol. When I started having this problem I tried recreating the symbol from scratch in inkscape as well.

Can you help with this problem?
