Text dialogue box does not open

I just installed the latest version of Inkscape and now the Text box and the Fill and Stroke box do not open. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Reset your preferences to see if this helps:

OS X or Linux:
Open a terminal, run:
rm ~/.config/inkscape/preferences.xml

Windows:
In a Run box (WinKey+R) type:
del %AppData%\Inkscape\preferences.xml
