Hi anson lee,

this depends on the picture you are trying to trace and the settings you are using for this ;)

To be able to help you, we need you to tell us what exactly you are trying to do, what happens, and which version of Inkscape you are using on which operating system.
If you have a system monitor tool, could you also tell us if your memory usage is rising and how much?

There are already some known bugs which prevent tracing of bitmaps,
like:

and foremost, connected to memory usage:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/986271

Your problem might already be fixed in the development version.
If you want to try the pre-release version, and see if the problem is gone,
visit https://inkscape.org/en/download/ and download/ install pre3. Note that this version is not yet considered stable!
