Install Wizard balks if any files leftover in Inkscape folder

Asked by PayneLessDesigns

Installed new version of Inkscape with old version still installed. Uninstall Wizard ran smoothly and deleted old files.

Install Wizard refused to install because there was still a file in the folder it was installing to. Turns out it was balking to install because the uninstall executable was still present in the folder c:\Program Files\Inkscape.

Should be an easy fix. If a new uninstall program needs to be added, then Install Wizard needs to overwrite existing uninstall.exe or just remove the old one so installation can continue without all the fuss and bother.

After I opened up folder and deleted the executable, installation of new version went smoothly. A job well done on Installation Wizard.

Nice editor.

Ron

Hi Ron, This is a known bug, and will hopefully be fixed for the next release. It is a bit of a pain. Not sure what causes it yet, but we've got it on the list to look into. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/211070

Cheers, Rygle.

Don't know how I missed the other reports about this, but thank you for a quick response. Which I had the tools to work on something like this. LOL

Ron, it's easy to have a go. I just got started a few months back. Literally. Have you delved into developing at all? Sounds like you'd like to?

You should get into reporting bugs on launchpad - hardly any different from asking a question like you've already done - just keep using Inkscape 0.46 and see if any problems you have are reported, and if not, submit a report, or help others fine-tune their bug reports.

To go a step further, you could try downloading the development version of Inkscape from http://inkscape.modevia.com

You could also take a look at how to compile your own version of Inkscape for Windows - http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Win32Port

Hope to see you on launchpad!
