How do I choose a new colour for the fill bucket without changing the previous selection?

When I change the colour of the fill bucket after I have coloured a previous selection, the previous selection changes colour. This is very annoying.

Switch to the selection tool. You'll see that the last filled object is selected.
De-select it, select the new color swatch and select the fill tool again.
If you don't want to switch tools, you can simply select "deselect" from the edit menu after the last fill and before changing the color (a key shortcut for deselect all would be handy in this situation, thogh).
