changing connection points

I'm trying to connect two rectangles in a flow diagram, with a connector that goes from the center of the right-hand edge of the first rectangle to the center of the left-hand edge of the second rectangle. However, when I use the connector tool and draw from one rectangle to another, Inkscape places the connecting line along the bottom edge of the two shapes.

How do I change where the connection line starts and finishes?

select your connecting line, nodes will appear at each ending of the line, then you just need to drag them wherever you want them on your rectangles.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer - if I do as you suggest, the lines appear in the
right place but no longer stick to the shapes they are connecting, so
that if I move the shapes around, the lines do not move with them.

Yes, i tried with Dia and the issue is the same, if you change the anchor point then the connector stops following, i suggest you do all the connector fine tuning at the end when your diagram is done and you are sure you won't move your rectangles any more.

Dia however is doing a more suitable connection as the connector will not overlap your rectangle like in Inkscape, so maybe it's better for you do do the diagram in Dia and then import it to Inkscape (the .dia import option appears in Inkscape only when Dia is installed)
