how to use fill and stroke

Asked by larry kane

When I use "trace to Bitmap" the resulting path has a stroke added to it. I need to remove the stroke before saving the EPS file. If I don't remove the stroke, my vinyl cutter makes a double cut which is offset from the first cut. Will I need to add a fill before removing the stroke so I can still see the object? Will changing the threshold in edge detection remove the extra stroke added to the path? If so what setting should I use? Thanks for your help.

Maybe you're using the wrong setting in the trace bitmap dialog. You should start from a black and white or line-art scan of a positive (black shapes on white background) image, and use the threshold option.
It will give you a solid-fill trace of your design with a single contour. Change to the outline mode to check the real vectors without the fill).
That will cut fine in your vinyl cutter.
Don't use settings that vectorize contours.

When I wrote "use the threshold option" I meant: Use the first option (luminosity) and the threshold to tweak it.
Don't use the second option for vinyl cutting.

I appreciate the help Guillermo has provided. I have attempted to use this information but everytime I saved the file in Inkscape using different formats I get an error message, in Flexi Cutter Pro Cut Edition, saying "File Format Is Not Supported". I have tried saving in Inkscape as; Encapsulated Postscript (EPS), Inkscape SVG, and Desktop Cutting Plotter (DXF). What am I doing wrong. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you Mr. Jackson. Your suggestion solved my problem of double cutting due to a stroke added to a path. I did discover that I needed to use "Color Quantization" instead of "Edge Detection"in "Trace to Bitmap". This allowed for the complete object to be cut out instead of an outline.
