when getting ready to cut how to change width without changing height

When I go to cut/plot and I need to change the height without changing the width how do I do that.I'm a new user and still trying to figure things out.Thanks for your help.

cut/plot?
It sounds like you're using some vinyl cutter/plotter software with inkscape. I've never heard of that command in inkscape.

Are you sure that the command belongs to inkscape?

No i'm using flexistarter sofeware and when I change the height it automatic changes the width. How can i change one without the other. Thanks
