maximized window shifts with each mouse click

Asked by MTMartin

Reference;- Question #68047, asked on 2009-04-20 by MTMartin
"After a fresh install of Inkscape in Ubuntu 8.10, after the window is maximized, with each click of the mouse the window shifts so that the top of the maximized window rests either on the panel or on the top edge of the screen. This means that if I click on "create spirals", the screen shifts up and I actually end up clicking "draw freehand lines". The reverse occurs on the following click. I have reinstalled the app, but with no improvement."

I am having the same problem using Ubuntu Hardy and have tried to follow the suggested solutions but without any success.
Because Inkscape "locks" this is very frustrating. The problem doesn't seem related to one particular image. Solutions please in a simple-to-understand format, if possible!

Window movement, maximising, etc., is controlled by the window manager, so presumably Gnome for you.

Does it do the same when the window is not maximised? Do you have panel auto-hiding on? Have you experienced this with any other applications before?

Answers to your questions:

It does not do it when the window is up, but not maximized. I do not have panel auto-hiding on, though I turned it on at one point to see if it would make a difference and it does not. I have not experienced this problem with any other applications.

MTMartin: That's a known bug that affects Inkscape 0.46 with Compiz in 1024x768 screens.
You have to de-activate compiz (sudo apt-get fusion-icon will help ;-) or switch to a development version, where that issue has been fixed.

Can you help with this problem?
