How to draw a semi-circle

Asked by Larry Curran

I am trying to draw arcs and semi-circles, but the cirlce drawing tool only draws full circles and elipses. How can I remove a portion of a circle without deleting the whole thing?

You have two options: using the elipse tool (once you created a circle or elipse, you'll find a rounded little widget on the right. That icon lets you create arcs or semi-circles.
Other option is to place a rectangle over the half you want to remove, select both and go to the path menu > difference (CTRL+-). The rectangle will be substracted from the circle.

Thank you Guillermo. I tried your first suggested solution and it works fine. I didn't try the second option since the first one was so simple to use. Thanks again. Larry Curran

Guys, another way to do it is using the espiral tool. 0,50 spirals, and 0 in divergency and interior radio. You need to close the semi circle with a line.

I like Alvaro's solution the best. But in fact in my experience you should select turn 0,51 or mess around with it a bit to get really half a circle.

Guillermo's first suggestion of using the elipse tool worked well for me
