right-to-left language text in Inkscape?

I've seen various references to the effect that Inkscape can handle right-to-left language text (like Arabic and Hebrew) but no description in the manual, and no obvious way to enter it.

Howard, is your inkscape installation in Arabic or Hebrew, or it's in english?
I really don't know, but my guess is that maybe it lets you enter rtl text if Inkscape is installed in a rtl locale.

Thanks - I have now succeeded with entering right to left text (simply by changing the keyboard via Alt-Shift), and am not able to duplicate the problem I experienced earlier.
