When doing a bitmap trace of something I've created, it translates as double lines for each shape and I want it to be only one...should lines be thicker?

Asked by Gregg

I didn't see an answer to my problem above. I have a Cricut Expressions machine and found the SCAL program online. I used Inkscape to translate my scanned images to .svg files. When the Cricut cuts out the areas where the black lines are, it actually cuts a second time as though there are 2 black lines side by side. Wondering if in the bitmap tracing, the program sees it as two lines or do I need to increase the thickness of each line so the lines are seen as only one line. Hope this makes sense. The cutting looks fine, but doing double cuts takes that much longer for each item being cut.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Sincerely,

Gregg

Did you check that the image was traced once?
Inkscape trace tool doesn't close and you can accidentally click twice on the button and get the image traced twice.
If you checked that and the tracing looks good (use CTRL+Keypad5 to see the traced shape in outline mode) maybe the problem isn't inkscape, but the svg importer of SCAL.

Sorry to take your time, but I figured out that I have to color in the areas that stay when creating the art. So all is well. Thanks, though for responding. I just had line drawings and that caused the bitmapping to be confused, I guess. So I just took a marker and colored in all the areas that needed to stay and then the white areas where cutouts. Works great. Love the program.

Again thanks for taking your time for something that I could have just waited and thought through..duh!

Oh, yes. That's right. The trace bitmap tool makes contours around filled areas, and a thick outline is a filled area for the tool.
Please close this question so it doesn't remain open.
