Error: failed to load requested file

Asked by prettybird

Hello, I am trying to use Inkscape to vectorize an image I downloaded. I downloaded a logo and saved it on my computer. Then I opened Inkscape and clicked on file, open and browsed to where I have this file saved and clicked open. An error message comes up saying it "Failed to load the requested file" and it won't open. Can someone please help me figure out how to get it to open? I need to I need to trace this logo and then send it to my Flexi Starter software so I can cut it out with my vinal printer.
Thanks so much for your help!
Deanna

The inkscape version is in the Help menu, "About Inkscape".

The file format is usually identified by the three-letter extension at the end of the file.
a jpg image, for instance, will be named something like "filename.jpg"

In the help it says Inkscape 0.46 and the file says it's an eps file
extension.
Thanks!

prettybird: Thanks for the information. Now I think I can help. :-)

The EPS importer doesn't work quite well in Inkscape 0.46
The development version (that will be released in june as Inkscape 0.47) has a much improved EPS importer and will manage that kind of files better.
You can get a recent build (a "nightly build") from Inkscape.org and test the new version.

Keep in mind that EPS files may include both vectors and bitmap images. It's possible that you won't need to vectorize the image if it's already in vectors.

Thanks for getting back to me. It seems like the recent builds might not be
to stable so I might wait until June to download the update. Funny thing
is, about a week ago I tried to do the same thing I'm doing now and it
worked with no trouble and now it won't work. Strange. But if I right
click on the logo and click "save picture as" instead of downloading it, it
seems to be working. So I will do it that way for now until they get the
update I guess. Thanks for your help!!
