i have this same error message on 0.46_4 0.46_3 and 0.46-devel (may 12 2009).

And i have this same error message when i draw a ellipse (F5) go to menu
Object and then Fill and Stroke (Shift+Ctrl+F) press on no paint (X) and
press Radical gradient and then i press Fiat Color or one of the other
selections after that inkscape flips out of memory and i got the same error
message with "Segmentation fault" in the shell console.

I downloaded 0.46_5 version as package and the 0.46-devel version i have
compiled myself on this machine i got often the warning message:
warning: missing sentinel in function call
