Create LimeWire language group for Indonesian (ID).

Asked by Jarret

In an effort to test various translation permissions (for quality control) we would like to create a test group for LimeWire's Indonesian (ID) translations, please.

Will you need a moderator appointed in this request, or can we manage that after the group is set up and the permissions are chosen? Additionally, can we handle all of the PO file uploads, or will you have to migrate a file from our current Indonesian translation PO?

Please let me know if you need further infomation to set this group up.

Many thanks,

Jarret Battisti

I do not understand what you are trying to do. A translation *group* is not language-specific, rather it comprises all translation *teams* that do the translation work in their respective language. Limewire's translations are managed by Launchpad Translators (https://translations.launchpad.net/+groups/launchpad-translators) which have a team for Indonesian, so I am not sure what you want to test.

Are you not satisfied with the work of the Indonesian team? Then you should raise the issue with them and if they are not responsive, talk to the Launchpad Translation Coordiniators that own the Launchpad Translators group.

On a side note, you have quite a few languages listed as your preferred languages and i dare to doubt you really speak them all. What are you trying to achieve with this? I think that situation needs some clarification as you should really only need to list those languages that you speak.

Henning, thanks for your reply - let me offer some clarification on what I was trying to do with an ID group...

We discussed having a group for each language (before knowing that it was not done that way), in an effort to control translation quality/completeness.

It's not a matter of being dissatisfied with the Indonesian translations (or others, for that matter), it was out of a desire to keep the translations from being edited incorrectly by users that could overwrite strings in languages w/o moderators.

Because we support languages that are not in the Launchpad Translation Coordinators list, they default to "Open" permissions and can be edited by any Launchpad user, correct or otherwise. We wanted to control that by restricting permissions on a language basis...

Hopefully that makes some sense.

If you have some advice on how best to proceed that would be helpful. I revised my preferred languages as well, I was not using the category properly, apologies.

Many thanks - Jarret

With your specific example, you've got several possible solutions:
 1. Instead of "Open" or "Structured", use "Restricted" or "Closed" translations policy: that will limit all translations only to existing approved teams. With "Restricted" anyone will be able to post suggestions but not activate them, so that's probably your best choice.
 2. For other languages not already existing in Launchpad Translators group, if you've got a well-ran team (i.e. they have their guidelines and vocabulary defined), we'd be very happy if they'd be interested in starting a Launchpad Translators team for their language.

Alternatively, if you don't want to make use of the existing Launchpad Translators group, we can open a new one for LimeWire where you'd be able to take full control of each of the teams (but it will also make it LimeWire's responsibility to ensure that teams have decent structure and quality).
